Nikitsky Boulevard begins at Arbatskie Gate square and goes to Nikitsky Gate Square. The name “Nikitsky” Boulevard and Bolshaya and Malaya Nikitsky streets received after female Nikitsky Monestary that was by Nikitskie Gate until the 1920s. The monastery destroyed, and today in its place is underground electrical substation. Nikitsky Boulevard laid in 1820 on the site of the demolished walls of the White City. Chertory creek flowed along the outer passage of the Boulevard. It was depen into the ground only in the 1870s. Yards of Moscow aristocracy appeared here soon after that. In 1917, the Boulevard became a place of street battles between soldiers and cadets of the Alexander School. From 1950 to 1990, the year the boulevard named Suvorovsky after commander AV Suvorov, who lived at the Nikitsky Gate. Homestead of AP Tolstoy is at 5 Nikitsky Boulevard. Outbuilding and the main manor house standing opposite each other and connected by bars. Monument to Gogol is in the backyard. Writer Nikolai Gogol lived here for the past two years. Monument by sculptor N.Andreeva originally stood at Prechistensky Boulevard from Arbat Square. Now it is replaced by another monument.
