Ensemble of residential houses

Дом 26 по Ленинскому проспекту является частью грандиозного жилищного комплекса, выросшего на бывшей Большой Калужской улице в 1939-40 гг.

Комплекс домов был построен по проекту архитектора А.Г. Мордвинова для Академии наук СССР, президиум которой располагался в Нескучном саду. В проекте также принимали участие архитекторы Д.Н. Чечулин и Г.П. Гольц.

Дом 26 отличается от остальных зданий комплекса тем, что не стоит на красной линии проспекта. Расположенный в глубине сквера, он объединен в единый ансамбль с домами 24 и 28, вместе они представляют собой классическую композицию: главный дом и два флигеля по бокам.

Центральная часть здания имеет девять этажей, последние два этажа объединены аркадой, напоминающей стиль домов итальянского Возрождения. Два крыла дома на один этаж ниже среднего объема. Как и в остальных здания комплекса, на первом этаже дома 26 расположены магазины. Торцы здания украшены интересными этажерками балконов. К сожалению, сейчас они застеклены и уже не представляют собой той легкой конструкции, которая была задумана при проектировании.

Часть квартир в доме была отдана работникам обороны и госбезопасности СССР.

В 1941 г. создатели комплекса были удостоены Сталинской премии.

Building 26 on Leninsky prospekt is a part of a grand residential complex that grew up on the former Bolshaya Kaluzhskaya Street in 1939-40s. The complex of buildings was built by the architect A. Mordvinov for the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the presidium office of which was located in Neskuchny garden. Architects D. Chechulin and G. Goltz were also involved in the project. Building 26 is different from the rest of the buildings in the complex by its position – it is not on the red line of the prospect. Nestled deep in the park, it is weld into a single ensemble with houses 24 and 28, together they represent a classical composition: the main house and two wings on the sides. The central part of the building has nine floors, the last two floors are weld with an arcade – this resembles the style of the houses of the Italian Renaissance. The two wings of the house are one floor below the average volume. As in the other buildings of the complex, on the ground floor of the house 26 shops are located. Gable facades of the building are decorated with interesting whatnots of the balconies. Unfortunately, they are glazed now and do not represent the same lightweight design, which was conceived in the design. Some apartments in the building were given to the employees of the Committee of the State Security (KGB) of the USSR. In 1941, the creators of the complex were awarded the Stalin Prize.
