Marina Tsvetaeva house

Между Поварской и Новым Арбатом, рядом с бывшей Собачьей площадкой стоит двухэтажный с виду особнячок – последний счастливый московский дом поэта Марины Ивановны Цветаевой.

Владение, долгое время не располагавшее каменным домом, в середине XIX в. досталось жене отставного подполковника А.Д. Сабко, которая построила в 1861-1862 гг. нынешний дом: двухэтажный, а с чердаком и подвалом – четырехэтажный. Во двор вели витые чугунные ворота с калиткой. Вскоре дом купил коллежский асессор А.А. Цветаев – нет, не родственник, просто однофамилец. Семья Цветаевых владела им до конца века. Затем Вильсоны, Родионовы, Балашовы, Дмитриевы. В 1914 г. юная Марина Цветаева с мужем С.Я. Эфроном и дочерью Ариадной сняла здесь одну из четырех квартир (№ 3 на втором двухъярусном этаже).

Марина прожила в доме восемь с половиной лет. Здесь прошли первые счастливые годы ее замужества. Тогда она называла дом: «колодец уюта и волшебства», «волшебный дом». Здесь же она пережила две революции, войну, страшную нищету, голод, рождение и смерть второй дочери – Ирины, известие (ложное) о гибели мужа. Тогда этот дом был «странным и даже страшным». Здесь же она состоялась как поэт и прозаик, написав 11 книг и множество стихов. Отсюда в 1922 г. Цветаева с дочерью уехала в эмигрантские скитания.

Квартира Марины начиналась комнатой с камином и потолочным окном – «тёмной гостиной», далее кабинет поэта, детская в три окна, во втором ярусе кухня и комната мужа – «чердачный дворец», которую Марина любила больше всего. К 1922 г. уютные квартиры превратились в многочисленные коммуналки. В распоряжении семьи Цветаевой остались три комнаты.

Коммуналки в разрушающемся доме оставались все советские годы. В 1930–х гг. его пытались снести, помешала война. В 1979 г. он вновь подвергся атаке. После многолетней борьбы, благодаря самоотверженности последнего жильца дома и первого научного руководителя музея Н.И. Катаевой-Лыткиной, дом не просто спасли от разрушения, но восстановили его архитектуру и мемориальное значение. В год столетия поэта в 1992 г. открылся Культурный центр «Дом-музей Марины Цветаевой».
 

Ныне музей располагает семью мемориальными комнатами, научной библиотекой, концертным залом, архивом Русского зарубежья.

Between Povorskaya Street and the New Arbat, near the site of the former Dog square there is a two-storey mansion - the last happy Moscow house of the poet Marina Tsvetaeva . Property that did not have a stone house for a long time was given to the wife of a retired lieutenant colonel A.D. Sabko in the middle of the XIX century. She built a current house in 1861-1862. That was a two-story, but with attic and basement - a four-storey building. Twisted iron gates with a wicket let to the back yard. Soon the house was bought by a collegiate assessor A.A. Tsvetayev - no, not a relative, just a namesake of the Poet Tsvetaeva. Tsvetayevs family owned it until the end of the century. Then Wilsons, Rodionov, Balashov, Dmitriev respectively owned the house. In 1914, the young Marina Tsvetaeva and her husband S.J. Efron and daughter Ariadna recived one of the four apartments (№ 3 on the second two-tiered floor) . Marina lived in the house eight and a half years. Here were the first happy years of her marriage. Then she called the house "a well of comfort and magic", "magical home." Here she went through two revolutions, war, terrible poverty, famine, the birth and death of her second daughter - Irene, the false news about the death of her husband. Then the house was a " strange and even scary." Here she became a poet and prose writer, wrote 11 books and many poems. Hence, in 1922, Tsvetaeva and her daughter left for emigrant wanderings. Marina's apartment began with a room with a fireplace and a ceiling window - a "dark living room", then the poet's study, a nursery in three windows, in the second tier a kitchen and a husband's room - the "attic palace" that Marina loved most. By 1922, cozy apartments turned into numerous communal apartments. At the disposal of the Tsvetaeva family were three rooms. Communal apartment in the collapsing house remained all Soviet years. In the 1930s they tried to demolish it, but the war prevented it. In 1979, it was again attacked. After many years of struggle, thanks to the dedication of the last tenant of the house and the first scientific director of the museum, N.I. Kataeva-Lytkina, the house was not just saved from destruction, but restored its architecture and memorial significance. In the year of the poet's centenary in 1992, the Cultural Center "Marina Tsvetaeva's House-Museum" was opened. Now the museum has seven memorial rooms, a scientific library, a concert hall, the archive of the Russian culture Abroad.
