"House of polar explorers "

Эффектный жилой дом в итальянском стиле, построенный в начале Никитского бульвара, представляет собой один из самых изящных примеров предвоенной советской архитектуры.

В 1930-е годы полярники были высшей лигой, в доме жили семь героев Советского Союза. За их мифологизированными подвигами следила вся страна, так же как следила за судьбами космонавтов четверть века спустя. В доме в разные годы жили Г.А. Ушаков, М.П. Белоусов, Н.Н. Зубов, А.В. Ляпидевский, И.И. Черевичный, П.П. Ширшов и другие.

Здание выходит почти симметричным фасадом на бульвар и увенчано широким карнизом. Выступающие боковые ризалиты на высоте последних этажей облегчены изящными галереями коринфского ордера и расписанными геометрическим орнаментом стенами. Центральная часть фасада расчленена квадратными пилястрами с коринфскими капителями и прорезана лоджиями. Стены лоджий покрашены в охристо-красный цвет, контрастирующий с бежевым основной покраски здания. Все это создает изящный ренессансный образ, характерный для архитектуры Москвы второй половины 1930-х гг.

Левое крыло здания отличается размером и формой окон и чуть повернуто относительно плоскости фасада — Евгений Йохелес включил в свой проект небольшой дореволюционный доходный дом, органично вписав его в больший масштаб нового строительства.

Тем не менее, «дом Полярников» остается редким примером застройки бульварного кольца, обойденного реализацией планов реконструкции Москвы середины XX века.

In the 1930s polar explorers were the deluxe range, seven heroes of the Soviet Union lived in the house. The entire country followed their mythologized heroics – the same way everybody would follow the fate of the cosmonauts a quarter of century later. G. Ushakov, M. Belousov, N. Zubov, A. Liapidevskii, I. Cherevichny, P. Shirshov and others lived in the house at different times. The building faces the boulevard by almost symmetrical facade and is crowned with wide moulding. The raised side risalits at the height of the top floors are lightened by the elegant galleries of Corinthian order and by the walls painted in geometric ornament. The central part of the facade is dissected by square pilasters with Corinthian capitals and is cut through by the stanzas. Walls of the stanzas are painted in ocher-red color, contrasting with the beige color of the main building. All this creates an elegant Renaissance image, characteristic to the Moscow architecture of the second half of the 1930s. Left wing of the building differs in size and shape of the windows and is slightly rotated relative to the plane of the facade - Evgeny Yoheles included a small pre-revolutionary tenement house in his project, organically entering it into the larger scale of new construction. Nevertheless, "The house of Polar explorers" remains a rare example of the development of the Boulevard Ring, which avoided the realization of the plans of Moscow reconstruction of mid-20th century.
