Mitinskoye Cemetery

Кладбище расположено в Северо-Западном административном округе Москвы. Это одно из самых больших городских кладбищ, занимающее 108 га.

Свое название кладбище получило от района Москвы Митино, рядом с которым находится. Открыли его 15 сентября 1978 года решением Моссовета. В результате исчезли располагавшиеся на его нынешней территории деревни Дудино и Алексеевское-Пушкино.

На Митинском кладбище на одном из первых в городе стали создавать с 1997 года семейные (родовые) захоронения на специально выделенных участках.

На территории кладбища находится православная церковь Московской епархии, а также часовня Иконы Божией Матери Всех Скорбящих Радость, которая была возведена по благословению Святейшего Патриарха Московского и всея Руси Алексия II.

Здесь же, на Митинском кладбище, находится отдельный большой участок, созданный в 1978 году по инициативе руководства Московской соборной мечети, для захоронения людей, исповедующих ислам.

На Митинском кладбище похоронены многие люди, оставившие свой след в советской и российской истории. Здесь похоронены 28 пожарных, участвовавших в ликвидации последствий Чернобыльской аварии. В честь этих людей, принявших на себя основной удар катастрофы и ценой своей жизни спасших человечество от большой опасности, возведен Мемориал памяти граждан, погибших в результате катастрофы на Чернобыльской АЭС 26 апреля 1986 года, а в 1998 году построена часовня. Рядом возведена Звонница Памяти.

Памятник создан скульптором Андреем Ковальчуком и архитектором Виктором Корси. Он изображает ядерный гриб, внутри которого стоит человек и голыми руками пытается остановить надвигающуюся беду.

24 марта 2010 года в начале Аллеи Славы кладбища похоронен начальник Службы пожаротушения Москвы полковник МЧС Евгений Чернышёв. Он погиб, успев спасти пять человек во время пожара в бизнес-центре на севере столицы. Чернышёв участвовал в ликвидации более трёх тысяч чрезвычайных ситуаций и всегда сам был в первых рядах спасателей.

Среди захороненных на кладбище могилы Героев СССР, России, видных деятелей культуры и науки, военачальников, спортсменов.

Ежегодно 3 сентября в 10 часов утра на Митинском кладбище зажигают тысячи свечей в память о погибших во время теракта 3 сентября 2004 года в североосетинском городе Беслане. На Митинском кладбище похоронены многие военнослужащие, принимавшие участие в боевых действиях в Чечне, похоронены погибшие на месте трагедии в развлекательном комплексе «Трансвааль-парк».

Здесь же находятся могилы композитора Евгения Крылатова, автора детективов Николая Леонова, певца и актера Николая Никитского, писателя Эфраима Севелы, хоккеиста Виктора Тюменева, депутата Госдумы Василия Шандыбина и бывшего министра внутренних дел СССР и зятя Леонида Брежнева – Юрия Чурбанова.

The Cemetery is located in the North Western Administrative District of Moscow. With its area of 108 ha it is one of the largest cemeteries in the city.

It was named after the nearby Mitino area in Moscow. It was opened on September 15, 1978 upon the Moscow City Council resolution. As a result, the villages of Dudino and Alexeyevskoye-Pushkino that used to be there were demolished.

The Mitinskoye Cemetery was one of the first cemeteries in the city where starting from 1997, special lots were allocated for family burials.

There is a Russian Orthodox church belonging to the Moscow diocese on the Cemetery grounds as well as the Icon of the Holy Virgin “Joy of All Who Sorrow” chapel built upon the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexiy II.

Also, in 1978, a separate large plot for the burials of the people professing Islam was allocated upon the initiative of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque leaders.

The Mitinskoye Cemetery is the burial place for many outstanding people in the Soviet and Russian history. 28 firefighters who were among the first to respond to the Chernobyl disaster are buried here. There is the Monument in the memory of the people who took the brunt of the disaster and gave their lives to save the humankind from the hazardous aftermaths of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station on April 26, 1986. In 1998, a chapel was built in their memory, too. Next to it, there is the Memory bell tower.

The monument was created by sculptor Andrey Kovalchuk and architect Viktor Korsi. It has the shape of a mushroom cloud with a man inside it who is trying to stop the impending disaster with bare hands.

On March 24, 2010, Colonel Yevgeny Chernyshov, Chief of the Firefighting Department of the Moscow Fire Service was buried at the head of the Walkway of Fame. He died having rescued five people in the fire in one of the business centers in the north of Moscow. Chernyshov took part in over three thousand emergence response operations and was always among the first to come to rescue.

In the Cemetery, there are graves of Soviet Union and Russia Heroes, prominent figures of culture and science, military commanders and athletes.

Every year on September 3, at 10 AM people light up thousands of candles to mourn the victims of the terrorist attack in the town of Beslan in the Northern Ossetia. The Mitinskoye Cemetery is the final abode for numerous servicemen who fought in Chechnya as well as for the people killed in the collapsed Transvaal Park entertainment complex.

Also, there are graves of composer Yevgeny Krylatov, author of mystery novels Nikolay Leonov, singer and actor Nikolay Nikitinsky, writer Efraim Sevela, ice hockey player Viktor Tiumenev, State Duma Member Vasily Shandybin and the USSR Minister of Internal Affairs and Leonid Brezhnev's son in law Yuri Churbanov.
