Pokrovsky cathedral

Рогожский старообрядческий посёлок возник в 1771 году, когда старообрядцам было разрешено создать за Рогожской заставой кладбище, чтобы хоронить там умерших во время эпидемии чумы. Этот посёлок стал важным религиозным и культурным центром старообрядцев. В 1790–1792 годах по проекту М. Ф. Казакова был возведён каменный Покровский собор в классическом стиле, ставший центральным элементом архитектурного ансамбля Рогожской общины.

Собор задумывался как мощный символ, соперничающий по своему величию с Успенским собором в Кремле, однако из-за давления властей проект был изменён: вместо пятиглавого храма возвели одноглавый, без алтарных апсид и в уменьшенных размерах. Несмотря на это, собор стал важнейшим религиозным центром старообрядцев, а его иконостас, состоящий из очень древних икон - одной из главных святынь.

В первой половине XIX века, несмотря на гонения на старообрядцев, Покровский собор оставался действующим. Однако, в 1856 году собор все же был закрыт, после чего в течение 49 лет он использовался как часовня. Ситуация изменилась в 1905 году, когда было объявлено о веротерпимости. Алтари были распечатаны, и с тех пор богослужения в соборе не прерывались даже в советское время.

В 2007 году реставрационно-строительный концерн «Возрождение» начал масштабные работы по реставрации Покровского собора. В рамках проекта были полностью восстановлены кирпичные проёмы южной, северной и западной папертей, а также белокаменный цоколь, который подвергся переборке, докомпоновке и последующей тонировке. На фасадах были восстановлены архитектурные элементы, такие как пояски, наличники и каннелюры. На ротонду собора возвратили позолоченный крест. Внутренние работы включали реставрацию монументальной живописи площадью около 4000 кв. м. Особое внимание было уделено закреплению красочного слоя после удаления загрязнений и плесени. Специалисты также укрепили фундамент, вернули исторический цвет фасадам, восстановили декор. Внутри отреставрировали каменные лестницы, метлахскую плитку.

В 2012 году объект стал лауреатом конкурса Правительства Москвы на лучший проект в области сохранения и популяризации объектов культурного наследия «Московская реставрация».

Сегодня Покровский собор остаётся действующим храмом, сохраняющим память о долгой и сложной истории старообрядческой общины Москвы.

Old Believer village Rogozhsky experienced many things: before the revolution, it was under the scrutiny of the authorities and the official church , after the revolution, felt the anti-religious policy of the Soviet state. Yet it is persevered. In the middle of it for more than 220 years stands a huge Cathedral of the Holy Virgin . However, it meant to be in a different guise and with specific goals . Formed around the Rogozhsky cemetery, the settlement counts down its history from 1771, when during the Moscow epidemic of plague with the permission of Count G.G. Orlova Old Believers were allowed to create behind the Rogozhskaya outpost, not far from the Vladimir road, its cemetery with the Old Believers' chapel for organizing the fight against the spread of the disease. The name came from the direction of the Nizhny Novgorod tract to the village of Rogozh, existing today as a town near Moscow Noginsk. After the end of the epidemic, the Old Believers stayed at this place, created a settlement with the permission of Catherine II and began construction of an almshouse with two temples - a summer church in the name of the Protection of the Virgin and winter in the name of the Nativity of Christ. Rogozhsky settlement became a major center of Moscow Old Believers priests (ie, they had their priestly hierarchy) , and therefore proposed to set up a new church , " in opposition to " Kremlin Assumption Cathedral of St. Basil's projected five-domed church , by its shape reminiscent of the cathedral in the Kremlin, while large, as space and roominess. Believers thus proclaimed its primacy and declared rivalry with the official church . However, the authorities quickly found out about the plan and intervened : Pressure Believers were forced to change the original project to make the cathedral one-headed , stop altar apses and reduce its length. The final project, designed by architect M.F. Kazakov was a broad church , designed in the classic style. Inside the four-tiered iconostasis were made with classic columns , consisting of ancient icons donated by wealthy members of the community . In 1856, in the wave of strengthening the persecution of the Old Believers from the authorities on the altars of churches Rogozhskoe cemetery were sealed , and then for 49 years, they were only used as a chapel. The situation changed in 1905 , when it was announced toleration , and Old Believers are allowed to practice their faith and build their own churches .
