Первое здание библиотеки находилось на ул. Дмитрия Ульянова, в нем было всего 2 читальных зала, позднее к ним добавился третий – нотно-музыкальный.
В 1987 году библиотека переехала в новое здание на Калужской площади. Здание построено по уникальному архитектурному проекту, подготовленному под руководством академика Якова Белопольского.
Описание

В Российской государственной детской библиотеке сложилась своеобразная система залов: общие - для детей и подростков разного возраста, для специалистов, и специализированные - зал литературы на иностранных языках, нотно-музыкальный зал, фонотека, Комната сказок, зал семейного чтения, Пушкинская комната, кабинет психолого-педагогического консультирования. Большие площади отведены для размещения книжных и иллюстративных выставок. Есть просторные рекреационные помещения, современный киноконцертный зал на 170 мест.
 
Более 50 лет Российская государственная детская библиотека работает как культурно-просветительский центр для детей и их родителей. А для коллег по профессии - это научно-методический и исследовательский центр по вопросам библиотечной работы с детьми и подростками, развития педагогики, психологии и социологии детского чтения, библиографии детской литературы.

С 2013 г. РГДБ - ведущая площадка повышения квалификации специалистов библиотек, обслуживающих детей.

History Museum MISISThe MISIS Museum was created to preserve and study the scientific and technical heritage of the MISIS scientific and pedagogical schools, to promote the scientific and technical achievements of the MISIS, to raise the general professional level of the teaching staff of the institute and to raise the patriotic education of the young generation. The museum exhibits are actively used in the educational process. They are shown not in the limited space of the museum hall, but are placed in various rooms of the university, including in different buildings, rooms of the departments of the institute and in specialized classrooms, where lectures and practical classes are held in special disciplines. The exposition consists of the following sections: "The main milestones of the history of the institute"; “Metallurgy is the forge of victory”; "Famous scientists - graduates and teachers of the institute"; "Archeometallurgy"; virtual museum. There are presentations within the framework of scientific conferences and seminars in the museum of MISIS; a science festival is being held, in the program of which a theater-museum project occupies a special place - a costume-making historical event; classes are organized in the courses “Introduction to the specialty” and “History of science, technology and education”, the annual conference on the history of metallurgy, the annual spring conference and the competition of scientific works of students of metallurgical specialties in archaeometallurgy, and the Congress of the dressers of the CIS countries.

New TretyakovThe only permanent exhibition of Russian art of the 20th century is located in the Gallery building on Krymsky Val. The works of the world-famous masters of the Russian avant-garde of the 1900s – 1920s (K. S. Malevich, V. V. Kandinsky, M. Z. Shagal, P. N. Filonova, L. S. Popova) are replaced by the works of socialist realism of the 1930s –1950s. The creativity of artists of the “severe style” of the 1960s is demonstrated in parallel with the art of representatives of the “underground”, who initiated the “second wave” of the Russian avant-garde. The final part of the exhibition is fundamentally "open" in nature. It presents the work of the 1980s – 1990s. The Tretyakov Gallery is ready to replenish its collection with the most recent and relevant works of domestic authors. Moreover, various exhibitions are regularly held in the halls of the Gallery on Krymsky Val: classical and modern art, domestic and foreign masters. There is a children's creative workshop in the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val since 2002. The peculiarities of working with children in this center of children's creativity are determined by the neighborhood with the exhibition “The Art of the Twentieth Century”. All the most daring experiments in the field of artistic language of the last century are presented here.
