A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum

A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum is a unique phenomenon of Russian culture. The beginning of the museum was laid in the mid-nineties of the XIX century by a private collection of the famous Moscow industrialist and philanthropist Alexei Alexandrovich Bakhrushin. Today, the museum has more than one and a half million exhibits: sketches of costumes and scenery by outstanding masters of set design, photographs and portraits, stage costumes of great actors, programs and playbills of plays, rare publications on theatrical art, objects of decorative and applied art and much more. Theatrical collection has become one of the most valuable museum collections in modern Russia, it presents works by Bakst, Golovin, Kustodiev, Dobuzhinsky, Korovin, Yuon, Roerich, Tatlin, Exter, Rodchenko, Popova and other eminent masters. A variety of exhibitions are held in the main building of the museum and its many branches. The Bakhrushin Museum is always open for theater lovers. In addition to a detailed excursion program, interesting for both children and adults, the museum organizes lectures on the history of the theater using unique stock materials, meetings with famous artists, and creative evenings.
