Museum of the Jewish History in Russia

The museum tells about the life of Jews in the Russian Empire and the USSR. The largest Jewish community lived in the Russian Empire, and then in the Soviet Union. A special type of Russian and Soviet Jewry was formed. The museum’s exposition can be divided into two parts: traditional culture - the prevailing forms of community existence, education, charity, particularities of life, adherence to religious regulations, etc .; historical processes - the relationship of Jews with society and government, the contribution of Jews to the development of the economy, culture and science, the experience of Jewish land management and the attempt to create Jewish autonomy in the USSR. Almost all museum exhibits are genuine objects, evidence of a bygone reality, which visitors are invited to peer at. They are presented against the background of collages and texts that recreate a specific historical or artistic context in the spirit of the Jewish commentary tradition.
