CHURCH OF THE DEPOSITION OF THE VIRGIN'S ROBE

A special place in the architectural ensemble of the Cathedral Square is occupied by the Church of Deposition of the Virgin's Robe. The church is located between the Assumption Cathedral and the Faceted Chamber. Founded in the 15th century, the temple was named after the feast of the Robe of the Most Holy Mother of God. For several centuries, he was part of the complex of the metropolitan court and served as the home church of the metropolitans and Russian patriarchs. The iconostasis and wall paintings of a small, cozy temple make up a single artistic ensemble. A permanent exhibition of Russian wooden sculpture is posted at the gallery of the temple. There are few monuments of this art form, and each of them is of great interest and value.
