Бенуа Леонтий Николаевич (11 (23) августа 1856 – 8 февраля 1928). Архитектор, профессор, педагог, подготовивший большую плеяду крупных архитекторов ХХ века. Католик.
Родился в Петергофе. Сын архитектора Николая Леонтьевича Бенуа и дочери архитектора Альберта Кавоса Камиллы Альбертовны Кавос. Брат художника Александра Николаевича и художника-акварелиста Альберта Николаевича Бенуа.
Образование получил в Петербургской Академии художеств, которую закончил в 1879 году с правом пенсионной поездки, которым не воспользовался.
Преподавал в петербургском институте гражданских инженеров, в Свободных художественных мастерских. Неоднократно был ректором высшего художественного училища при Академии художеств.
С 1892 по 1895 год был редактором журнала «Зодчий».
Один из виднейших представителей модерна в Петербурге. Автор выставочного корпуса Русского музея Александра III («Корпус Бенуа»), певческой капеллы в Петербурге, доходного дома Российского страхового общества на Петроградской стороне. Строил также в Варшаве, Москве, Киеве, Ташкенте и т.д.
В 1910-1913 годах вместе с группой архитекторов создал проект преобразования Петербурга.
Учредитель и почетный председатель Общества архитекторов-художников.
К ученикам Леонтия Николаевича относятся архитекторы А. Щусев, И. Фомин, Л. Руднев, В. Покровский и др.
В 1921 году был арестован и провел шесть месяцев в тюрьме.

Family Benoit gave a picture of the Hermitage (hence the second title of the painting "Benois Madonna"). Hope had a daughter - a graphic artist; son Alexander - Volunteer who served in the army and was killed in the Civil War.
Died in Leningrad. He was buried at the jetty Literary Volkov cemetery in St. Petersburg.
