26 Tverskoy bulevard

I would like to describe the house as following: "The existing ensemble of 26 Tverskoy boulevard was formed at the beginning of the XIX century on the site of the old manor house, built on the basis of wards and services that emerged in the second half of the seventeenth century..." But, unfortunately, the existing ensemble is only a replica of ruthlessly destroyed I.N. Rimsky- Korsakov estate in 2000's.

I.N.Rimsky -Korsakov became famous during the reign of Catherine II, according to Shcherbatova, " multiplied the shamelessness of adultery among women." Korsakov made a distinguished career at the Catherine II’s times. He was her favorite for the entire 16 months, a knight of the Order of the White Eagle, adjutant general of the sovereign herself, but incurred the wrath of the Empress by stealing the wife of the famous chief chamberlain A.S. Stroganov. Empress wrote: "He should been hired as a model to all sculptors, painters; all the poets must chant the beauty of Rimsky- Korsakov." Pylyaev assures that Korsakov was more accommodating than beautiful; his frivolity and kindness completed the portrait. Rimsky- Korsakov and Stroganova settled on Tverskoy Boulevard in neighboring estates. They lived in peace and harmony 45 years until the death of Ekaterina Nikolaevna and had two children. Kids were registered as pupils of the beloved couple. Ivan was excellent musician and owned the most expensive violin in Russia. Moscow fell in love with him for his eccentricities, and told a lot of jokes about him. It was rumored that he had a house in the village and not only had his servants, but also the servants of his guests drunk champagne. Also he owned a huge library. During the library acquisition Korsakov summoned bookseller who asked him “What kind of books would he like to have in the library”? Ivan said: " This is what I already do not care, it's up to you however large books should be at the bottom shelves and higher the shelf – the thinner books supposed to be there, just as like at the Empress’ library. " After the death of his wife, Ivan spent a long time seating in front of her portrait. Mourn, took out a box of treasured letters to Catherine II, sighing their flavor and slowly re-read. Then he was taken out the watch presented to him by the Empress with her portrait and pearl inscription: "May 1st, 1778". It was the day of their meeting and the day of their first kiss. Pushkin used to come here to listen to the stories of Catherine and Potemkin old times during his visits to Moscow. The house burned down in 1812, then it was rebuilt. Homestead added a number of small office buildings, extending through the lane and boulevard. Then closed courtyards appeared, which were hidden behind the facade. Empire-style front facade does not reveal the confusion of yard buildings. After the death of Rimsky- Korsakov's his son V.N. Ladomirsky inherited the estate. Vasily received his name from the Empress and grew up as a pupil of his father. According to another legend, his name and the name of his sister Barbara was granted by Emperor Paul. The estate had a different owner in the XX century. A.A.Yagolkovsky, the noble man was stated as an owner in address books. Ironically, on the eve of the revolution the building was acquired by Dmitri Rubinstein (aka Mitya – this is what Rasputin called him), the famous adventurer, spy and friend of Gregory Rasputin. F. Yusupov, the killer of Rasputin owned the neighboring house. Communal apartments were in the house during the Soviet times. The study of the building and restoration project began only in 1974. A thorough, meticulous work revealing compelling evidence that the house is an unique monument of Moscow history was competed in these years. Walls of the house have kept the clutch of the end of XVII century. Grand paintings of the first quarter of the XIX century were discovered in many areas of the second floor. Hardening of paintings, foundation and load-bearing structures of the building work was done to preserve this unique structure. The entire façade of the complex facing the Tverskoy Boulevard was renovated between 1990 and 1994. Original configuration of roofs was restored by detected signs. But the house had no luck. The property changed hands and was destroyed at the whim of a new owner. The new purpose of the historic building required an underground garage, as well as new interiors. In the early 2000s the building was demolished. Only a façade of the monument of federal significance left at the moment. One can mourn the fate of the house by visiting "Pushkin" café locate here.
