State budgetary institution of culture of Moscow "State Museum-cultural center ‘Integration’ named after N.A. Ostrovsky "

The museum is located in the monument of history and culture of the 18th - 20th centuries. It was built in the late 80s of the 18th century by project of architect M. F. Kazakov. At different times amazing people lived in it. Princess Zinaida Volkonskay, lived here in 1824, turned the house into a real temple of art, organized a literary and musical salon. From 1898th to 1917th the merchant – millionaire G. G. Eliseev owned the building. He gave a significant part of the building as a shop, which didn’t change the address throughout the XX century. Since 1918, part of the house was used as apartments. In 1935-1936 the writer Nikolai Ostrovsky, the author of the book ‘How the Steel Was Tempered’ lived in one of these apartments. In 1940, the museum of the name of N. Ostrovsky was created in the apartment. In 1992, it was renamed the State Museum - Humanitarian Center “Overcoming” named after N. A. Ostrovsky in connection with the creation of a new exposition of the museum dedicated to people with a difficult destiny, who, following the example of N. A. Ostrovsky, overcame their ailments. The museum has been focused on working with disabilities for many years. Информация о музее

Музей Николая Островского расположен в доме 14 на Тверской улице — памятнике архитектуры и истории XVIII–XX веков. Здание построил великий русский зодчий Матвей Казаков. С 1824 по 1829 годы в нем жила княгиня Зинаида Александровна Волконская — на ее литературно-музыкальных салонах собирался цвет российской культуры. Здесь бывали Александр Пушкин, Петр Вяземский, Адам Мицкевич, Евгений Баратынский, Василий Жуковский и многие другие.

С 1898 года по 1917 год особняк на Тверской принадлежал купцу Григорию Елисееву. Значительную часть здания он отвел под магазин, который долгое время работал под именем своего первого владельца — «Елисеевский». С 1918 года часть дома использовалась под квартиры.

В декабре 1935 года сюда переехал писатель Николай Алексеевич Островский. Тут он провел последние годы своей жизни: диктовал новый роман «Рожденные бурей», отвечал на многочисленные письма читателей романа «Как закалялась сталь». 22 декабря 1936 года писателя не стало. Музей его имени открыли 21 октября 1940 года.
